Safeworks Academy ("Safeworks Academy", "we", "us") provides online safety and compliance training. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information when you use safeworksacademy.ca, our course platform at courses.safeworksacademy.ca, or contact us.
We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), whichever applies.
Information you give us:
Information collected automatically: when you visit our websites we collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device, pages viewed and referring site. We collect this through cookies and similar technologies (see section 6).
We send marketing emails only with your consent, and every marketing email includes a way to unsubscribe.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information stored outside Canada is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessed by its courts or authorities. We choose providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to Canadian law.
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your cart, and understand how our websites are used. We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to measure website traffic. Google collects information such as the pages you visit and how long you stay, and it is processed under Google's privacy policy.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on. Our course platform may ask for your cookie choices when you first visit. Some parts of the course platform will not work without essential cookies.
We keep your account and training records while your account is active, and afterwards for as long as needed to verify certificates, meet legal and accounting requirements, and resolve disputes. When we no longer need personal information, we delete it or make it anonymous.
We use reasonable physical, administrative and technical safeguards, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, access controls and trusted service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to how we use it, subject to legal and contractual limits. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide some services, such as verifying a certificate. You can update most account details yourself by signing in to the course platform. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need to confirm your identity first.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
Our courses are intended for adults and working-age learners. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Our websites may link to other sites, such as regulators and course partners. We are not responsible for how those sites handle personal information, so please read their privacy policies.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will give more prominent notice.
